Information About Annette:

Personal Description:

I tutor from my comfortable home in Bishopston, BS7 (but can do home visits locally where a special need exists). I have a degree in English, a PGCE in English teaching, experience of teaching English Language and Literature in secondary schools and experience as a GCSE examiner in English Literature. Therefore I am a specialist subject teacher for English. On the basis of further qualifications and work experience in social research and therapy I can also tutor Sociology and Psychology.


Teaching Experience:

Working full time in London and Bristol secondary schools for 5 years teaching English Language and Literature enabled me to stretch students of all abilities. After having my own family I returned to the challenges of secondary supply teaching. I have also worked as a social science researcher for Cardiff University in schools and have strong experience in the subject of Sociology. I am also a qualified, practising counsellor so have strong experience in the subject of Psychology. I worked as an examiner for the Midland Examining Group for 7 years on the GCSE Literature paper.


Tutoring Approach:

My personal qualities and professional training enable me to work with any individual student and their own motivation. I am experienced at tailoring work to the needs of the student and the requirements of the examining body. I am happy to help with coursework and exam preparation, and to agree goals with the student to progress between tutoring sessions. I can liaise effectively with the students own subject teacher and arrange private GCSE retakes where needed.
